Located in the Huerta plain and surrounded by mountains, Murcia is the capital of its namesake region and a famous producer of vegetables. This picturesque city adorned in Baroque masterpieces like the Cathedral still enjoys a peaceful, local atmosphere.
Founded in 825 by the Moorish Caliph of Cordoba in the centre of the Segura River valley, the city planners created an irrigation system that inaugurated the agricultural prosperity of the region. The Old Town -showing some of the Moorish legacy- is situated along the river banks, and its main streets Platería and Trapería have been pedestrianized for easy walking access. The centre of Murcia offers accommodation ranging from 5-star hotels to low-cost pensions.
Famous city festivities include the Holy Week, the Spring Festival, and the folkloric ‘Bando de la Huerta’. If visiting Spain and Murcia during these dates, check the hotel availability with enough time in advance. The beaches of the ‘Costa Cálida’ can be reached in less than 40 minutes’ drive. Hotels between Murcia and the beach are the best way to enjoy both the city and the sea.
Murcia-San Javier Airport is 51 km away, while Alicante Airport is 73 km away. Check out the deals on Booking.com before travelling!

Murcia is almost dead south of the river, apart from the rail station. North of the river, the area around the Cathedral and that around the Plaza de las Flores are both busy and lively. There is no shortage of bars and restaurants in either area. The area between Gran Via and the Cathedral is full of quaint streets and alleyways, with bars and boutiques. Via Alfonso X is a lovely pedestrianised walk, with striking historical buildings. There is also a more bohemian area with a younger vibe, around the Mercado de Correos. The river has some lovely walks and views. Just south of the Plaza Circular is a large shopping area, with the usual suspects!

Don’t go during the spring festival unless you like getting drunk. The streets were a disgrace, beer and urine all over. I applaud the work of the street cleaners as the next day it was lovely. We were able to get a coffee and food where we wanted, and the monuments were open. The casino and cathedral were especially good.

Nothing really interesting to see, the historical center is very small. Maybe could be a good base to visit the surroundings, but you definitely need a car.
There is no bus service from the airport, and the taxi costs 29 euro fixed rate.
Great for food and the climate though.

A very pleasant city without many tourists.
A very pleasant city without many tourists. The central part of the city is pedestrian and thus without much noise. The city is overall clean and safe day and night. Life in this part of Spain is outdoor and many streets and plazas are in reality outdoor restaurants or living rooms. Price level in Murcia is fair and quality-price ratio is good. Do not hesitate to follow suggestions from waiters regarding food and beverages. Not everybody can speak English and even a small knowledge to Spanish will be useful.
We booked a 2-hour guided walking tour via the tourist office and it gave us a good introduction to the city (10 Euro/person). We stayed for 4 nights in a centrally located hotel and this was an ideal lenght for a visit unless you make some excurisions out of the city.
There is a hourly direct bus (ALSA) from Alicante Airport to Murcia (55 minutes and 6 euro/person). The railway connects Murcia and Alicante city.

Long weekend so didn't see everything.
Long weekend so didn't see everything. Easy to get to from Alicante airport, good looking and busy town, lots of restaurants and shops, not too busy with traffic. Easy to walk, cycle. Great marathon.
The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and attentive. My partner had lost his wallet and once it was handed into reception, they even delivered it to our room. They also allowed us to store our luggage and ordered us a taxi. The hotel is also located right in the city centre, only a minute walk away from the Cathedral.
The room was small but comfortable; bathroom was a little cramped (a large person might struggle) but perfectly adequate for me and with a good shower ; the hotel was well located in the city centre but not in a really busy (or noisy) place. Reception and housekeeping staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Lovely hotel for a 2 night stay in Murcia. Easy to drive to and had a convenient car park underground.
Rooms were large and comfortable, with modern bathroom fittings.
We especially loved the swimming pool.
Not too bad for walking into the city, about a 20 minute walk.
It is like an oasis in the desert! Beautiful quiet space with fruit trees and shade. I loved how peaceful it is and the room was very well organized. Super close to UCAM (our reason for visiting the city) and only a 15min drive to Murcia center.
Not too far from the railway station, or the centre of town, this hotel is cheap, cheerful and clean. The rooms are quiet, and the staff are great.
This is my go to hotel in Murcia. I've stopped here numerous times, and will stop here again.
the location was really nice, 15min walk from bus station and right in the heart of Murcia, really easy to find. The hostel was really beautiful. The staff there was really thoughtful and helpful!
One of the best trip to Spain, we got great welcoming from Amal as she speak Arabic, English and Spain. She also was helping us to find the best places for shopping and food.
the hotel is very convenient to the city centre and having the pool and sun beds was great to chill in the evenings even though the pool is not so big it did the job great.
Perfect business hotel just off the motor way with parking garage below. 10 minute walk to city centre. A few nice bars, places for breakfast, and other small shops nearby.
I enjoyed my stay at Sercotel. Room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Best location in the city center. My favorite hotel in Murcia.
Good Location, not that far from center. Clean rooms with enough space on them. Easy parking on streer around and few supermarkets and McDonalds next to to hotel.
