The location of the hotel was very nice. The hot-tubs outside were free to use and it was superb experience. They gave us bathrobes which was very convenient. Hotel was clean and nice. Staff was very kind to explain everything what we needed to know. They offered us wake up call for aurora.

The room was super cozy and very modern, clean and spacious enough for 3 adults. The restaurant was delightful for a fancy dinner, the food was amazing (albeit pricey) paired with a stunning view. Staff here are super helpful, my partner slipped on the ice and cut his hand, they were able to offer him multiple bandages to cover his wounds.
Situated by Lake Myvatn, this hotel offers WiFi . All rooms feature a TV and private bathroom. Skútustaðagígar natural site is 2 minutes’ walk away.

Ideally located to visit the area. The room was warm, comfortable and the view over the craters really lovely. The bathroom was spotless but the water pressure was a bit of a issue. Plenty of choice at breakfast, many cuts of fish available! The hot dishes instead were already cold at start of service.
This hotel is quietly situated 2 km from Lake Mývatn and 30 minutes’ drive from the Godafoss Waterfall and Krafla Crater. It offers free Wi-Fi and rooms with modern furnishings.
Set on Lake Myvatn’s northern shore, this property is 5 minutes’ drive from Myvatn Nature Baths. On-site facilities include a communal kitchen, small convenience store and bicycle rental.

The drive over through the mountains (if you decide not to take the toll road via Akureyri) is already a treat before you arrive at a unique location in a natural park located in the northern part of Iceland. Our bedroom had an en suite bathroom, and was clean. Waking up to see a fresh (thin) layer of snow covered the outside area was a big bonus. The common space has enough room to not bump into the occupants of the other rooms, and the kitchen is well stocked.

Lovely location with a view across to a volcano. Very comfortable apartment that was perfect for us travelling with adult children. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
Fly to Akureyri Airport from Reykjavik (45-minute flight), then drive to Myvatn (90km, about 1 hour). International travellers can fly to Keflavik Airport, transfer to Reykjavik (50km, about 45 minutes), then follow the domestic route.
The most convenient airport for both domestic and international travellers is Akureyri Airport, due to its proximity and regular flights. It's approximately 100km from Myvatn, a journey of around 1 hour and 15 minutes by car.
Myvatn, Iceland, lacks public transport. The best options are hiring a car or cycling. Car rental services are available in nearby Akureyri and Reykjahlíð. Cycling is feasible during summer months, with bike rentals available locally. Walking is also an option, but distances between attractions can be considerable. Always check local weather conditions before setting out.
Reykjahlíð is the best area to stay in Mývatn, Iceland. It's conveniently located near the lake, natural baths, and volcanic features. It offers a variety of accommodations, dining options, and is a hub for local tours.
Myvatn, Iceland experiences a subarctic climate with cold, snowy winters and cool, short summers. Average temperatures range from -10°C in winter (December to February) to 12°C in summer (June to August). There's no distinct dry or wet season, but precipitation is relatively low, with the wettest month being October. The region is not prone to monsoons or hurricanes.

It's a beautiful lava field and lake system.
It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges.
Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths.
If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution.
Obviously it's not as nice as Akureyri, but I would say that as I live there

Myvatn Lake certainly has beautiful scenery and the weather is typically warmer than the coast. For the full service/hotel travelers I would recommend Fosshotel. For campers there is plenty of accommodations.

So much to see and do in this area!
So much to see and do in this area! Thankfully we were up and out just after nine! We packed in so much! Lots to see down the eastern side of the lake. Each activity offered us something different and unusual that we hadn’t experienced before. The thermal baths there, although smaller than the Blue Lagoon, are much cheaper and actually offer senior rates. Two pools, one warmer than the other and one sort of large hot tub area. Well worth the money! The cakes in the restaurant there and the coffee were some of the best we’ve had and are reasonably priced. They also have larger meals and soups on offer.

Myvatn is a beautiful lake, and the surroundings have plenty to offer to visit and for hiking. It has a great variety of scenic points and shorter and longer walks. At Skutustadir is a nice information centre that also a small exhibition explaining the origin of the circle of craters over there.

Although it was a long drive from the west of Iceland, it was well worth it. There are so many hidden gems: 2 grottos, a fissure off the beaten path, a nature bath that rivals blue lagoon, and so much more. It's also not crowded due to the location. Well worth the drive!
Large and tasty breakfast buffet included! The restaurant is a little pricey for other meals, but the food is exceptional! One of the best burgers I’ve ever had, and beef was from the cattle on the farm. Very close to all the attractions of the Lake Myvatn area — only a few minutes drive to Dimmuborgir, the Nature Baths, thermal field, Viti crater, etc. By the way, we highly recommend the Nature Baths — nice setting & facilities, and less crowded/touristy than the Blue Lagoon.
The location is superb: it's in the south of the lake and there are no obstacles around so it's the perfect place for watching northern lights. The hotel is newly built so everything is modern and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and have big windows facing the sky, meaning you can watch the starry sky or even spot the northern lights in the comfort of your room. The breakfast is also very nice. In all, it's definitely worth the price.
We absolutely loved this gorgeous location and the setup of having little cottage to ourselves was perfect. It was offered as a free upgrade on booking since they weren’t full. The staff was super nice and friendly and there was an amazing view of Lake Myvatn. Super close to town and all the sights in the area. Very efficient small space with everything we needed. Thank you for such a pleasant stay!
The campground hosts were very helpful in providing information. The huts are close to a supermarket/gas station and Myvatn lake seems like a vacation spot for the locals. I really liked having a porch to sit on at the end of the day. We used the kitchen of the hostel down the road. The campground bathrooms and showers were kept clean and were walking distance from the huts.
We really enjoyed our stay in the hut as it was warm and comfortable. The location not far from lake Myvatn is great and the staff very friendly and helpful. Check-in at the campsite was very easy (with this wind, we were very happy not having to stay in a tent...)
Best of all of course was the breakfast - it was excellent and even had lava bread!
We did a tour around Iceland and we stayed one night at Aska Modern Cabin. The cabin is situated in a perfect location near Myvatn lake. The reception is nearby and the crew is helpful and friendly. The cabin has all the facilities you need, even a small kitchen if you want do do your own cooking. And we could park the car really nearby.
We got an upgrade without asking: king size room with a view on the lake, it was great ! The size of room was very good 😊 the hotel is very modern, bar and restaurant are nice and the staff is very friendly. The breakfast was amazing, the best of my 2 weeks trip ! There is as we 2 hot tubs - very convenient !
This is the best stay of our road trip, you can see the Aurora with Myvatn just by lying on your beds in the room and enjoy the heater, their room is near by the lake and the bed is facing the perfect scene with Aurora. We didnt sleep as we enjoy the Aurora and the lake view in our beds for whole night.
Excellent everything. Clean, modern, best hotel restaurant experience we had in Iceland. The hotel was set in a beautiful hillside and the location was excellent. The employee named "Justyna" went out of her way to make sure our experience was the best. Absolutely amazing employee!!! 5 STARS!!!
The location was right across from the lake and there were a couple of hiking trailheads there. Driving to the sights and other hikes were close also. One night we were going to go to a farm restaurant but couldn't get in. We ended up eating in the hotel restaurant and it was excellent.
Great location for sightseeing with beautiful views of Lake Myvatn and surrounding volcanoes. Very comfortable and clean. Staff was very helpful. Public spaces were nice and the food was great. Breakfast buffet was delicious with wonderful bread.
Nicely located, especially if you plan to stay in the area for some sightseeing around lake Myvatn. There is a restaurant in the hotel where you can have dinner. Our room was big, especially compared to other hotel rooms we had in Iceland.
Aside from the great location in Myvatn and the friendly owner and staff - the breakfast buffet is spectacular with home grown and local food products. Easily one of the best breakfasts I have while traveling.
The location is very good, close to the lake. The owner of the property is a very nice person. had a nice and informative talk after dinner. This hotel is more a family house with a pleasant atmosphere.
The hotel was right off the lake. The room was clean and the staff was lovely. The bar looked inviting. There was a pub across the street. The room was decorated very nicely.
