Karuizawa offers an amazing small town charm with excellent food, friendly people, and accessible nature. Definitely check out the Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel tour to view Musasabi! The only downside to this beautiful town is that it's a bit more pricey than the rest of Japan.

We would definitely go back.
We would definitely go back. Just around an hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo, Karuizawa is the perfect place if you want the laid-back, nature-embraced, old-town feel. Just strolling around town is cool enough but they have a lot of museums and galleries too, that the whole family enjoyed! Also got to try skiing for the first time. Overall, this is one place that we will always be included if we go in the Tokyo area again in the future.

A wonderful destination if you like fresh mountain air, lovely tree-lined roads, cycling, etc. Many useful bus routes and also Shinano Railway next to the Shinkansen that goes to Naka-Karuizawa and way beyond. Note that many restaurants close early, especially out of season. Many well-known restaurants need a booking.

Should spend more days in Karuizawa town. There is a Skiing sport just beside the Prince town outlets and worth for beginner to try and have fun. Walking distance to the old town bring different experiences and its very nice to try walk around and try the foods there. Its worth to go for a relax place. If more days , can travel down to the other town in Karuizawa for skiing and sight seeing. Awesome place to explore.

A European town in a forested mountainous region not far from Kusatsu, Shima onsen, or Tokyo.
The hot springs aren’t anything special but the mountainous scenery and delicious French/Italian food can be a nice change from the usual Tokyo bustle.
Autumn colours are nice, especially just north towards mount Asama.

Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed.
Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed. Like the “Club” room with free drinks (not beer) and games. Large rooms. Breakfast not buffet but “set,” and good enough. Not easy to spot entrance off the main road.
We absolutely love the size of the room. It was huge and the bed was very comfortable too. Decorations of the hotel were tastily done and it just gave us a very comfortable feeling. The restaurant breakfast is a must to try because the ingredients, the bread are just fantastic. They individually made the bun and the ambience was so comfortable. We stayed for 2 nights and we went for their breakfast for two morning. They do also have nice dinner bar also and feel free to try them too. But the breakfast was the highlight.
The lounge provides good refreshment when we arrived. The spread was generous and it was a nice place to take a rest upon arrival in the cold autumn. Especially the spinach fruit smoothie, it was simply marvelous! In addition, the room was big and comfortable for two people. It is a bonus when the Delicia Supa is within walking distance. It is a good place for us to re-stock our snacks and drinks. Overall, it was a pleasant experience in Cypress Hotel. Thank you very much for your hospitality!
Beautiful place. The moment you arrive at the hotel you feel a blanket of peace and tranquility coming over you. The staff provided amazing service and speaks well English to explain the necessary items + how to use the onsen.
The room is spacious, clean, and has a beautiful view on the small river. Beautiful bathroom as well and the bed sleeps amazing!
The highlight was the onsen, our first time to do this and we couldn’t pick a better location for this!
The breakfast was world class!
The hotel is classical and has a forest and garden. The rooms have a bath tub in the bathroom but the hotel has many individual small outdoor Onsen which is called Rotenburo. Some of them have Ganbanbuto. They were so nice. And the restaurant has terrace table. To have breakfast in the terrace or outside was really nice because even summertime , the temperature is not hot , feeling fantastic.
1. The location is perfect. there's a back entrance that leads you to Old Ginza Street, which opens up to the rest of the town. All walking distance to lovely shops and restaurants
2. There's a fabulous izakaya at the back of the hotel. must visit.
3. The staff are so friendly and helpful.
4. There's a catholic church just beside the hotel to pray and give thanks.
Every design in the hotel is real artistic, which the owner and guests together makes the community. The staff gets your needs easily and shows up on the right timing. The room is very clean. Food are well prepared with heart. Recommend local tomato! The location is getting access to Hoshino Onsen convenient. It’s a good place for recharge.
Location close to Karuizawa Station (10mins walk via South Exit), & convenience shops (Lawson & Family Mart). We were allowed to leave our luggages at the counter before check-in, and there’s a shuttle van to/from the hotel. Good simple breakfast, reasonable staffs & good room space. Overall, recommended.
The hotel is located near Karuizawa Station, just a few minutes' walk to Prince Outlet and Old Ginza town. Staff are helpful and accommodating. Rooms are bigger than usual, clean and quiet. They have a free coffee available at the lobby, perfect during winter.
There is shuttle bus from station to all the hotels and ski resort/ hotspring /shopping centre so transportation is not a problem. The view at the room is fantastic. Need reservation for breakfast where you can enjoy a delicious meal with great view.
The lovely wood cabin is spotless (like most Japanese hotels) and has everything you need for a short stay. Very close to the Karuizawa outlet and train station, I guess it's the best choice for most travellers.
In the main street of old Karuizawa. Friendly and helpful staff. The room is big and clean with a comfortable pyjama. The room has air conditioner which is very good in Japan hotel.
Short walk from the JR station and main bus terminal. Hotel is new with modern facilities. Room size spacious by Japanese standard. Bathroom is spacious too.
